I miss the snow!

~taterinx

Hello, everyone. I guess I should say, firstly, that I'm new here! Though admittedly I'd gaze upon word after word every so often before deciding, "yeah, I'll be a part of this!" If there's any sort of etiquette I'm forgetting, please don't hesitate to let me know! I don't want to step on any toes.

Anyway, earlier today I wrote in my blog and thought I'd bring the topic over to here. The first paragraph:

In primary school, teachers would give warnings out if we even attempted to lob a snowball at someone else. The biggest tragedy was walking through the sludge, but at least you could get a laugh out of a massive sleet of snow falling from the assembly hall roof onto the unassuming. At least, when my sibling could only be transported by an arm (or a cot), we could use that as an excuse for why mum couldn't walk me to school. On Yellow Hill, we would sled, though there were many small slopes to sled on in these flat lands. And Yellow Hill stood on top a couple of slopes. You would sled down one, shuffle along the path, and then sled down a larger slope. You would crash and roll, but at least you held onto hope that £250 would be yours because the nation loves YouTube's predecessor, You've Been Framed.

Is anyone else just absolutely gritting their teeth (in a fun, "darn it!" way) at the lack of snow in their area. Do you think differently? Are you plagued by snow?! Are there any old winter/Christmas memories you hold dear, even the mundane? I'm trying to think optimistically, but DAMN I miss the snow! I miss it! I miss it! I miss it! Why is there no other joy in the winter?! Hot chocolate isn't the same without the cold making itself so visually prominent. I need to shush.

In the spirit of things, bartender, I'd love a hot choccie. Lots of whipped cream! With a hint of salted caramel syrup! Maybe marshmallows. The fire in here is lovely.

From aiming snowballs at my friend’s head to being accidentally buried by a ton of snow and getting a mild case of hypothermia to sleighing down the high school hill, snow has always made up some of my favorite childhood memories. I lived in the Northeast until end of high school and now having been living in the opposite coastline for the past 6 years where it hardly even rains, I feel restless without it. Like Christmas is in the 60’s/70’s how am I suppose to feel jolly?

So yes, I basically feel your pain! >:O

(Also welcome ~ please bartender give them some cookies too to compliment their drink).

I will actually seethe so hard without my jovial candy cane littered snow-crusted winter wonderland!! >:(

(Please bartender, I love cookies)

I come from Southern Italy, we don't get snow. When I moved to the US, the first time it snowed I was thrilled.

Then I realized how _inconvenient_ the snow is. I am in the Windy City now, and dread the day true cold will befall upon us.

Ooh, my partner's family is based in Chicago and he's back over there for Christmas, so I tend to enjoy his stories of the snow. Apparently, the snow hasn't hit yet (though that might just be his neighbourhood).

I'm super curious about how the US compares to Southern Italy now, so if you've ever got time I'd love to hear all about it!

i haven't grown up with snow, and i can't lay claim to living in a snowy environment for over a fortnight. i've only ever visited for holidays and such.

snow is a trade-off, to me; i miss the ambience of outside fireplaces at night in the stinging cold, and the necessity of daily hot chocolates which all-of-a-sudden tasted thrice as nice, but in the long-term i'm more comfortable with my endless access to beaches, and the persisting greenery amidst stress-relieving walks.

irritatingly, i'm yet to experience the concept of a snowy Christmas that i'm plagued by on American television, and i do wish i could personally relate to your blog post extract, but overall i reckon i'd prefer no snow at all over snow forever.

I don't blame you at all for the lack of snowy sentiment. If I had to choose, I'd also choose to be able to walk around without frostbite in the long term. Longing aside, my favourite season isn't determined but it's definitely not Winter. It's occurred to me, now that you've mentioned it, that I didn't even go to the beach this Summer! What was I doing?! lol

When I was a kid, I lived in a warm harbor city where it rarely snowed all year round. When it did snow, which is usually impossible, kids were allowed to play outside and have friends over late into the night. Your post reminds me of those days.

You got here at about the same time as me, so welcome :)
