State of SF

~kai

Hey, it's been a while, time for my first post of 2024, first of all, how is everyone. how was your new year, onto the post.

Lately i've been thinking about the state of SF, mainly print sf. I've feel like the genre has lost its aptitude for speculative fiction. The genre seems to have been watered down to "cool buildings and futuristic guns" . On the other hand, I feel like i'm looking in the wrong places and just haven't stumbled onto some good modern science fiction. What are your thoughts on the state of print SF and If possible what are some recommendations for modern sci fi. Do you see where I am coming from, or am i just being a little ignorant.

i think scifi is thriving you just need to find the smaller writers. my personal favorite (which i may be a little biased on as i develop the website for it) is neokosmos, which is about humanity within an alien context i guess? really fun, many emotions, very messy. none of the books have been finished yet but the first book is in its final draft now and will hopefully be out in a year or two! but all the drafts are free to read through their discord

Hey ~kai, and Happy New Year!

I do not read enough of anything to comment on your impression. But I have stumbled across a book, which imho features a lot of very interesting ideas:

Shane Dix,Sean Williams: Echoes of Earth (2002)

So it may not be super recent, but it was really interesting for me. Like "What happens if an army of nano-robots gets out of control?"

If this is not new for you, then, well, "sorry for the noise".

~bartender? No, not a gargle blaster, goddess forbid, but maybe a float (root beer + vanilla ice cream) with a sprinkle of peppermint? Yes??? Cool!
