Midnight Pub

Worst case scenario...

~ralfwause

After a long day at work i am on my way home with a mind clouded with worries, i decide that its best to make a quick stop at the pub to get at least a somewhat clear thought.

As i walk through the door and get a glimpse of the regulars i head straight to the bar and ask the barkeeper for a strong coffee and a glass whiskey. I turn into the general direction of the next group of regulars and begin to talk:

"You know... sometimes the shit hits the fan right in the worst possible moment. My wife and i had planned a trip with our son to Vietnam, the homecountry of my wife. Its very important for her because i never had visited the country before and since we had married five years ago there was always some shit (like a global pandemic) that had prevented us from doing so. So far that her relatives are starting to act funny. Well, this year it was planned, my wife will fly with our son on thursday, i myself will fly on 03 March for work related reasons. Well, so it was planned...

...until my 83 years old dad tripped and fell down the stairs a week ago. Thankfully, he "only" received a broken leg, but now everything is in full on stress mode: He had surgery on last thursday, and tomorrow he will go to a short time care institution ("Kurzzeitpflege" for any german present) to reccover and become ready for rehab. Now my mom sits at home and is scared of nearly everything, because she has no friends or near contacts outside of the family. My sister, who lives nearby had a disc prolapse a week ago and is also "out of order". So... at the moment we are all trying to get everything in order so that my mom can somewhat relax in the two weeks i will be absent and my dad gets the care he needs to go to rehab soon.

I wish we could postpone this trip without upsetting everybody on the vietnamese side of our family...

Well, whatever... i have still more than 3 weeks in country to sort everything out and who knows? Perhaps everything will turn out fine."

I drink my whiskey and realise that even telling this story did have a positive impact on my mind... well... "Bartender, may i have another one?"

Damn friend... hang in there. Even if it doesn't turn out like you hoped, it will turn out fine. Might take you a mont or a year or even a decade to look back and believe it turned out fine, but it will.

It's requires a lot of effort and puts a lot of stress on you when you need to solve family problems and help family members in need. But in the end, the stability and happiness family brings pays back more than enough.

Here hoping everything goes well. Cheers!
