familiars

~beefox

i lost a family member over the weekend, he passed young and he was the other disabled member of my family.

the night i learnt of his death, i decided to do a reading of my dice about it. I picked my dice and rolled them, my cat was curious what i was doing and so he came over to watch

my mum has always joked ever since i got him that he was my familiar, because of how we interacted and how he would follow me around and loved being near me.

I begin to read my casting, and just as i get to the metamorphosis dice, a dice about the journey of life and how things change, my cat pushes it and rolls it to a new side.

The original side was the cocoon, a time of solace and change and self reflection. The new side was the milkweed, which indicates respite and allowing time between the phases of life. he had changed the meaning of the roll into one in which i should rest rather one i should isolate.

I love my cat, familiar or not!

I am sorry to hear about your loss.

That is one little thing about divination that I always find intriguing, how little accidents and misplacements can change the outcome of a reading. At first I thought these disrupted the original reading, but then I thought, these readings are, after all, the outcomes of randomness coming from every direction!

Our furry (or otherwise) companions are, in their own way, familiars! They are little souls as divine as our own, after all. Perhaps even more in touch with their dao than us, so entangled in our own minds.

Send my regards to your cat.

yeah, exactly my understanding too! the whole point of divination is letting the randomness of the universe help you find things to look at about the world and about yourself. so this was my cat helping me along that journey!

i will give him many cuddles and kisses for you
