Life Before 9/11

~theoddballphilosopher

Many people know how much life within the United States has changed since the events of September 11th, 2001, one of the worst terrorist attacks in American History.

But what many people find themselves still oblivious to is how much the impact of 9/11's legacy has left on the everyday life of the American.

John P. O'Neil, a counter-terrorism agent, knew about the impending attack and warned the FBI about it. But when he told them, they decided to refuse to listen to him. As a result, thousands of civilians paid with their lives. O'Neil himself was one of the victims caught in the Twin Towers.

And the rest of the American public were forced to sacrificed more of their freedom for security.

A wave of Neo-Conservatism spread across the United States, as well as hysteria across the media, and stronger government involvement throughout the press of the nation. Something which Green Day had emphasized in their album "American Idiot", which sung about the power of the media and how it can invoke feelings as fear, paranoia, blind patriotism, something which many parents, fearing for their children, pushed away from those who would come to be known as the Emo Cult.

As the youth of America pushed against authoritarianism, the authorities pushed back harder, pieces of history were lost, freedoms were lost, racial liberties, ethic liberties, as the war on terrorism progressed, not to mention the cost of living. All these things have been growing since for the past 20+ years.

In the novel V For Vendetta, a totalitarian government took control over Great Britain in the face of a global pandemic, and collapse. A future that is slowly evermore becoming a reality. To the elderly who are deluded and think these things can only happen in the realm of fiction are out of touch with reality themselves.

The Y2K era had ended, and a new era had begun; a Brave New World.
