Great read, I'm a big fan of Indian raga, and as well one of my greatest influences as a guitarist is the American primitivist Robbie Basho. He mixed Eastern and western spiritualism into his music and lyrics and often used tampura in his music.
I'm working hard on a document for my university studies. Well, about as hard as a fellow can work, when they're also mellowing out in a digital pub. And as I write, I listen to beautiful Hindustani classical music. The sitar, the tabla, the dilruba, the swarmandal, and the wonderful, wonderful tanpura.
That droning sound! That gentle wave that carries all the other instruments, the caretaker of them all, who guides them and provides that smooth base to rest upon as they play. Mother Tanpura, whose voice is low and continuous, seeping into your skin, echoes through your bones. I love her, I love her, I love her.
Well, I must return to my work now, lest I wish to invoke the wrath of my professors. Wish me luck, I shall surely need it......
