touch - revisited

~fallenriver

a palm enveloping another,
a small breeze felt through,
soft breath on the cheek,
and a warm "welcome back."

I suppose that's how things would go after meeting a long-distance partner.

a tight hug, tighter still,
like you will vanish if they don't,
like the distance will grow,
any second they don't draw you in.

It's a rather strange feeling, especially in the age of video calls and instant messaging: How close, yet how so far. The mind wanders to all those times you could walk hand in hand, head on the other's shoulder. Cherish those memories, they keep you two close when you are not. Physically anyway. They say "Distance makes the heart grow fonder." I think so.

touch (a previous post) was about escapism. This one isn't. This one's about the lack of it, but also the force of it. Facing the fact that this is something to endure for someone worth more than anything. And she is.
