The Sentinel

~eskimonk

We dance to the algorithm

as it learns all our moves;

the two step authentication,

swipe to electric slide.

~

The beat, hauntingly familiar,

sounds like your own heartbeat;

the cadence quickens as you move,

the music matching with your groove.

~

You know you’ve heard this song before,

but once more cannot hurt;

the DJ spins a tempting web,

please switch on your alerts.

~

The playlist is repeating now,

the songs all sound the same;

there are no exit signs in sight

and so, we must remain.

Really like the wordplay in this stanza

You know you’ve heard this song before,

but once more cannot hurt;

the DJ spins a tempting web,

please switch on your alerts.

I read this while listening to that song...

~bartender, you got something stronger?

I was hoping someone would get that reference.

I titled it after I wrote it and it seemed fitting.

idk what song you were referring to, but these lines resonated so hard with my relationship to the song that I was listening to then, and I've been listening to for the past few... months?

The title is a reference to an Australian hip hop song called ‘The Sentinel.’ It’s basically the premise of Hotel California but set in an underground bar in Australia.
