ideas for a graveyard

~hitogata

I'm still relatively new to the smol web/gemini, but from what I've been able to tell from exploring around a lot of it has already been abandoned, perhaps a bit after 2022? I'm not sure of the context, but that's not really my point here.

What if people made a kind of "graveyard" for all of these sites? Like an aggregator for capsules that used to work and be linked to, but no longer exist.

Just an idea. Maybe we can keep the NASA theme by calling it a "derelict zone" or something.

Or maybe this is already a thing?

I really love that idea a lot. Just to start it would be great if there was a record of the url and even just one short sentence about a site. Just to start. Just to ensure they don't disappear completely.

Do you have any examples in mind? As much as I love the smol web, because we're all over the place there isn't a great way to just ask "hey does anyone remember anything about 'gemini://example.com'?"

By the way, the domain you quoted there is available for purchase. Pretty cool name for a site. :)

I can't think of many examples for now, but a lot can be found just by exploring the OG orbits. Maybe the capsule could have a way to submit dead links, possibly just by sending me (or whoever hosts it) an email?

Looks like a cool idea, I don't think we already have a "graveyard" for abandoned/offline gemini sites and capsules. May not be very easy to mantain though!
