the sun… giving way to winds now. on the journey to a new land. distant ships, scattering in random directions. i tried to wave to them, they did not respond. only adjusted their sails to get more wind. the island doesn't seem too far away now. but now, the waves are stronger, the peaks are reaching my height. i'm expecting way bigger ones are on their way. and when i look up, i see it.
the moon is closing in on the sun.
without my light, everything is more erratic. "it should not last more than a few minutes," i think to myself. "it comes and goes." only, this one does not go away. i wait for minutes, hours, days under no light. i decide to look up for the umpteenth time and i realize: the sun is right there, without obstruction. it's me that can not find that light. i am the one that is blind to the rays. i wash my face, but the veil is there. i try to think of the rays, but can't catch more than a single ray at a time.
will you halt this eclipse in me
-Sleep Token, *Look to Windward*
i need light, a spark, anything! i remember that i was close to the island. maybe they have a lighthouse. and sure enough they do. it's dim, much dimmer than the sun. i can barely make out a beam every few minutes. still, it is there. its existence fuels me and my sails. the winds never faded, it was my indecisiveness and fear that stopped their guidance.
**will you halt this eclipse in me!**
and that does it, my vision is back. the rays pierce my pale skin, almost casting me aflame for a second. then, centered again. and so the journey continues.
