The Future Leaders of the World

~theoddballphilosopher

Adolescents are philosophers in the making. As they grow, they begin to develop their own personal beliefs and identities apart from that which they had come to know as a youth.

To infantilize them is to rob them of their autonomy and critical thinking. To subject them to rigorous systematic dogma is to suppress their natural intellect and imagination. It is nothing less than inhumane and must be objected at every corner of the world.

You will find those who have grown old in feign frailty, often demoralizing the youth, as they deem the future leaders of the world, unworthy to carry onward obsolete ideologies, whose purpose was to never serve those who'd come after.

The same can be said of toddlers. Kids lack experience, so they often make up with reasoning skills (that's why there are so many famous child logicians). I'm not sure it's "inhumane" not to engage with them rationally; my sense is that adults fail to see how well children reason because they focus on the conclusion.

But, for sure, we're missing some of the greatest parts of parenthood if we don't engage in philosophy discussions with our kids.
