I'm enjoying the catch-up on everyone's writings here. My hobby time of late for the non-corpo web has been nil. Quite the state of limbo for the past few years actually...
Funny thing, I moved into a place I love being at and now rarely leave the house. I certainly needed the come-down from the base level of stress I was at for some years. Now I am holed up in the woods with a few cats and a dog in an old house with no AC and a fireplace. This is how I grew up, and it was hard to live any other way for the time that I did. The bad news? I never leave the house! Why would I? Of course there are healthy reasons to. You get kind of weird, which is alright. I certainly look like someone who isn't obligated to be personable and presentable very often. It's clear the psychological rest should come to a close, though. My cardio fitness is quite dire; I miss hiking forest that isn't on the way to the mailbox, and would like it to not feel like a PT test the next time I slip away with a backpack. I should probably fix whatever has activated my check engine light as well... In short, I've lived like some person of small stature from a Tolkien story for long enough.
I'm also taking a dip in the reading-for-fun pool after an unintended hiatus. I began learning Latin last month (here I must recommend Lingua Latina per se Illustrata to anyone interested), but soon realized it had been ages since I picked up a sci-fi book. Now I'm on book 3/4 of Julian May's "Saga of Pliocene Exile" and it is... fun. Not great, not terrible, very neat concept, far too hand wavy. I am looking forward to picking up some fantasy and maybe a spy/crime novel or two by the end of the year. I really should look into that check engine light.
