Midnight Pub

warm greetings from a first-time visitor

~florrie

hello, everyone.

this is my first time visiting the pub, so i’ll have just a cup of mint tea for tonight.

i hope all of you are having a lovely time.

i've been searching for a calm place to relax and have a nice chat after a long day, and i found this one by pure serendipity. earlier this year, i made the choice to step away from the raucous world of social media after noticing how detached from the real world it was making me feel. since then, i’ve been spending my free time reading, gardening, and going on walks. i’ve been slowly re-learning how to be present with myself and in the world. but i also deeply missed the sense of commonality that the web offers, to be able to share an experience and have a stranger, on a different side of the world, hear you and understand your words. that was when i first learnt about the small internet and gemini, and decided to give it a try. i am very new and very lost, but i am present. i am probably going to make a few mistakes along the way, but i thank you for understanding.

there is a poem by charif shanahan that goes:

“ i climb down the stairs and wander the medina. / sit at a café near the souk and order mint tea. / i want to enter my life like a room. blue walls. / a floor painted green. three large windows. light. / i study the faces that pass. count each one. / it is a long time before my eyes meet another’s.”

tonight, i am looking out the open window and the moon looks beautiful. i am happy that this is a moment that we get to share. let’s order a cup of tea and fill our hearts with something warm. as a matter of fact, the next round is on me.

tracker

Tracker looks over at the newcomer from his comfy chair, puts down the book he was reading, and tips his flatcap.

"Welcome to the Midnight! And thank you for that bit of poetry. The conversations here are varied - a mix of personal musings and existential crises, tales of wonder and horror, and sometimes just someone venting about a rough patch in their lives. Regardless of the conversation, they move at a human pace here, and we can choose whenever and however we want to engage with them. I hope you enjoy yourself here."

Turning back to his book, Tracker takes a long sip from his mug of hot chocolate and lets out a happy sigh.
