You seem to be saying that topics are responsible for interaction degradation.
To me, the responsibility lies with those incapable of handling such topics faithfully redirecting such topics to being about the intelligence and/or morality of other participants ("inferior") relative to themselves ("superior").
The more descriptive word then 'shitshow' might be 'selfshow'.
Matches don't light themselves. Some people are capable of handling them for benefit; others carelessly/foolishly as effective entropy accelerant.

I can understand how someone identifying with such a category might hurt themselves on non-flattering associations links to the category.
But I'm not one of them. Brush strokes the width of the likes of heritage, country/region of origin, and skin color seem like unnecessary limitations, e.g. "I'm a <wide brush stroke label>!"
So I say go for it. Just keep in mind I may have a response that makes light of believing in such categories/labels as though relevant to the essence and/or behavior of individuals in the first place.
