Midnight Pub

wake me up when september ends

~rav3ndust

Finally, August is over.

~bartender, just a glass of wine for me. Whatever the house special is.

August was a hell of a month for us. We ended up losing my father in law, which was a whole story I mentioned in my last musing here at the pub. I won't go too deep into the specifics, but he ended up having an issue that went septic and it was caught too late to do anything about it. It sucks, and I feel incredibly bad for my wife and my mother in law as they continue to get used to the idea of him not being around anymore. However, on the other side of the coin, we are glad that he is no longer in pain. It was obvious he was really going through it toward the end.

That saga came to its sad conclusion halfway through August, and not even a week later, I started dealing with some pretty good wisdom tooth pain. I have one that has waited ages to come in compared to my other ones, two of which have been pulled (I'm in my early thirties). I have an appointment this month to see about going ahead and getting the other two out. In the meantime, though, the pain has subsided, so I have been finally able to go back to eating real food (for about a week, I was living on a diet of ramen noodles, soup, and those meal replacement shakes since 'real' food was harder to eat with the pain going on).

The first thing I did when that pain subsided was to get a nice, big pizza from our local Italian place. It was awesome after a week of noodles and soup.

Finally, however, things have begun to calm down here in our neck of the woods. We had a very good rainstorm earlier today (finally!), so I took some time to clean the house with some good music going on in the background. Got back to working on adding some entries to my personal wiki and preparing to move it all over to my personal site as well, making some updates to my fediverse instance, along with the usual sysadmin work for clients, so I have finally been productive again.

I am glad the temperatures are going to be nice here for the next week, by the looks of it. I am looking very much forward to fall - breaking out the light hoodies, having a few beers around a campfire with my wife and buddy again when the weather is nice enough for it. Those are always some of the best and most underrated times. I live in front of my computer most of the time, so I am always thankful for those little moments that remind me of what it's like to share moments with fellow humans in places other than cyberspace. :-)

Feels like I've been away from the Pub for awhile, even though it's only been a few weeks, the last few weeks have felt like entire months! I'm going to kick back with my wine and catch up on some of the other pubbers' latest musings. Hope everyone has a great and safe Labor Day.

good to see you back RD. things have been chill at the Pub lately. I wrote a bunch of stuff, as I have been enticed to write more lately. People are crossing over from IRC (ctrl-c chat) and here every so often, the zine continues with Ctrl-c (the ^Z prject), I have been indoors staying out of the heat, and I plan on staying here until the weather REALLY gets better.

Sorry for the lost of your father-in-law, and sucks about the tooth pain. I had a wisdom tooth and molar pulled a few months back, life has been better since :)

welcome back, enjoy the wine!

~bartender, a diet pepsi to go with these corn chips, if I may. Nocturnal browsing requires caffeine and carbs! :D

thanks! definitely good to be back. glad to be doing anything other than driving all over creation for funerals and appointments, and the like. I enjoy the ^Z zine, I bookmarked it and read a few entries when I saw it posted here for the first time a few months back.

I've also been staying out of the heat as much as I can. Waited until the evenings and early mornings to get things done out in the yard since this summer has berated us with high-90s, low-100s for what seems like an eternity! glad we're finally working our way towards fall. September always seems to be that (usually) pleasant transitory period.

I bet life has been better since getting those pulled, I know I am looking forward to having mine out as well! I've went through all kinds of pain in my life from having a terrible back as an adult and breaking a few bones as a kid, and man, tooth pain is about the worst of the lot in my experience.

Was some good wine! Think I might join you on that pepsi, though, caffeine is also sounding pretty good right about now - got a few hours left in me before I feel like passing out. :-)
