Midnight Pub

Another year has passed

~ralfwause

Its late, i am on my way home after a too long day of work, but instead of going directly to wife and child (who are surely sound asleep by now) i take a short stop at the pub. It has been a while, and as i walk through the door i see many new faces. Sitting at the counter i ask for a Guinnes and begin to talk to everyone who wants to listen:

Its crazy to think that another year has passed, if you would ask me, i would say the last christmas was only a couple of months ago. And what a year this was!

Last year at this time our son could barely walk, today he not only runs and climbs but begins to speak in 2 - 3 word sentences.

Thinking about it... this was a year of intense lows and highs, but in the end everything turned out not only ok, but indeed GOOD. At the beginning of this year my elderly dad had a bad fall which lead to some serious health issues and we feared that he would't be around now, but he is fine! After months in hospitals he is now living in an retirement home (too many stairs in the house of my parents) but he is gaining back his will to live and enjoying life.

My mom developed a massive anxiety after the accident of my dad, but this too is on its way to leave. She even thrives now that she HAS to become more resilient with my dad out of the house... she always lived in his shadow, now she grows again.

And me... well, it was stressfull, all this with a young child and there were enough strenuous moments in my marriage, enough words exchanged that wouldn't have been said under other circumstances. But i think we both did grow through all this.

All in all, everything is good... at least for the moment.

Cheers to all, and because i don't know if i crash in until next year i wish you all a merry christmas and a good start into the next year!
