It is not hypocrisy if you raise your voice. If you tell why you are not happy and explain that you comply only forced.
If we were more to simply raise our voices, I’m sure things would be different. Nobody could ever use the excuse "I didn’t know"
Hello Pub!
I have recently had to get back on two of the worst proprietary network services (Facebook and Discord... Gross...) to coordinate IRL activities I care a great deal about. I also feel like a total hypocrite about it since I've been a huge free software advocate for a long time. I even lost friends dramatically leaving Facebook and Discord in 2019/2020.
I feel gross about it, but it's also non-negotiable for these particular IRL organized activities.
Sigh.

This is a good way to not be participating in any IRL organized activity *very* quickly
I understand this feeling. Everything my workplace does is in Google. I only use my work account for work, but still. Ew.
Perhaps another way to look at it is: We're not hypocrites, because this is not our fault. It's the fault of these services for proprietary-izing *our own data* to the extent that we have no *choice* but to play the game on their platforms.
That doesn't make it better, but it might at least alleviate some guilt and put the responsibility back where it belongs.
