The Attraction of Back Alleys

~theoddballphilosopher

Ever since I was a pre-teen, I've often gained an odd fascination for alleys. I'm not sure what about them draws me in, but it makes me wonder what goes on back there, and possibly, what hidden treasure may be lying in wait.

Perhaps it's watching cartoons of Top Cat that planted the seeds that would eventually grow into a fascination.

What exactly is it about the alleys that draws me in? Other than the idea of possibility, mystery, and maybe what goes on around the corner and in the alley?

It's simply a puzzling fancy that I inherited, and one that still lurks.

Alleys are fascinating to me as well, I find that they have kind of an oasis effect while I’m wandering around the “nicer parts” of a city, retreating to something less busy, less out in the open, and less curated. I have fond memories of a period about two falls ago where I spent a lot of time in the nearby big city, and was also on a bit of a soup kick, and as such would often duck into an alley to sit down and eat some soup while people-watching a bit.

I adore alleys.. Glad to find someone who shares that sentiment.

I 100% understand this. I feel the same way, and it extends into all sorts of places. I always feel like some sort of wonderful secret is just another corner or door or click away. I've had a lifelong fascination with exploring the dimly-lit corners of both the real and virtual worlds.
