Midnight Pub

Japanese Rice Wine and American Lager

~shiloh

Well, I just got settled in my new dorm, with the same roommate as last year. He brought a case of beer and I brought some sake. We packed all our shit away, made our beds, ran through the rain for some dinner, and now I'm sitting at my desk with a cup of tea, a cup of sake, and a bottle of beer. Time to write some letters that I've been pushing off, or maybe read some more Dune (I've barely started it, heard a lot of good things). Anyways, cheers everybody, and sorry for the long absence.

Congrats!

Now if only (mild joke on memory fading with age coming...) I could remember whether I read it in the 1970s, or in the 1980s..... :-)

But definitely much impact at the time, although I'm remembering leaning a bit more "Foundation" trilogy in those days.

Welcome back! I look forward to hearing how you like Dune, as it's my favorite work of fiction ever.

Hey ~shiloh! Nice to see you around here again.

Hope you're getting settled into your new place, and it sounds like you had a nice day! I have a couple letters to send out too (on an app called Slowly) and coincidentally started the Dune audiobook 2 days ago! Here's hoping it makes sense to the both of us!

I also use Slowly! Most of my pen-pals on there have been relatively... short-term. But I've been exchanging letters with one since Feb 2020. It's been an amazing experience so far! How's your time on the app been?

I've been a user since late 2018. I've corresponded with almost 30 people in total since then, mostly in the first month when I was spending two hours a day writing letters. That was too much, but since then everyone has left me on read except two people whom I still regularly write to: one Georgia-the-country guy, and one woman from the UK. It's still a nice time, although I only send/receive a letter every two or so months. I have half a mind to reopen up my connections again and find some new people to write.

I have a tendency to collect different forms of longer-form writing. This place was the newest destination on the cycle, until I picked up D&D backstories and session summaries ;)

Just started Dune as well. Auspicious.

Three drinks at once?

Yeah, but I ended up drinking the beer, then alternating between tea and sake, all over the course of maybe an hour and a half. My roommate bought the beer, so I didn't want to refuse it.
