I feel a little guilty for having abandoned the place a few to five years ago after being faithfully what was it?.."metaARPA" or some artifictional beeswax like that since, I dunno, must have been 1992 or so...? Something like that. It's where I put damned near everything (well, you know.. not including genuine valuables, or things I hadn't backed up several times..).
I think what happened was it suddenly became too damned easy to work a Linux container on a Chromebook... and then I stupidly started buying into "But I could do such and such at such an such a cloud place FOR FREE, YIPPIE HIGH AYE HIGH OHHH!" - where, of course, the "FREE" part couldn't have been a bigger crock 'o the backside gush, often just a thing two (in contrast to "all things") considered.
<runs off to view their "join" page>
Oh, wait. No. I was "ARPA" with what they're still claiming to be a "one time" $36 payment. But I liked the place so much whilst experiencing degrees of what might be called gratitude guilt that I decided to give them $36/year until the aforementioned a few to five years ago.
And then I went back one day, and of course couldn't get in... and think I chatted with someone briefly there who said something like "you know what to do". I don't remember my exact response, but the person on the other end agreed that whatever payment I mentioned was the ticket.
I pondered working my paypal creds for the first time in ages to accomplish that, but... well, there's just so much of me that feels so much of all this is damned near entirely so much a waste of time.
So do I *really* wanna re-up in order to waste my time and most likely feel all "Okay, I got sites 'n shit and links and yet STILL nobody of what I want to call resonant substance wants to communicate with me...?"
I mean, I can basically get the "hoping in vain for that mythical degree of interact" rocks off right here for nothing. Right?
$36 a year / $3 a month, doesn't seem like much, but yeah given that not much is happening most of the time, does seem like a waste.
Even so, I like the idea of the project, even if it's something I myself won't buy into
> Even so, I like the idea of the project, even ifit's > something I myself won't buy into
I wouldn't go so far as to call it a "project". They've been around nearly forever on the internet timeline, and I spent a couple decades having an account and absolutely zero interaction with any other members (which, of course, probably says more about *me* than the "project"...). I thought it was just the best cloud shell account I could find for the money at the time.
That said... I started diddling with a "neocities" account the other day, giving it the same name as that of my old SDF account. Oh, for the love of names dying hard....
