music? makes me happy

~bucketfish

yesterday on my way home i walked by someone singing a song from my childhood outside the train station and i dropped them $2 and they smiled at me, and i think that's such a nice experience! to be fair it wasn't a really old song. i think it was a mashup of 'i want it that way' and some other songs, but it reminded me of really warm nights in the living room with my family just goofing around, and the entire childhood stuff.

i haven't seen buskers around since, since covid started? and i've seen three in the past five days. the first i did not have reasonably small change to give; or maybe i did not have the courage to, or whatever i tell myself. but i did for the second and third and it made me happy. music is really nice.

how's everyone?

They made being homeless illegal where I live. You used to see them around city centre at the train station, sleeping on benches, and not harming anyone. Then the bank building decided to renovate itself for some reason, and since that change, the benches have become decidedly anti-homeless and there is a stronger police presence.

I love this town, but it's changed a lot in the past few years

I try to keep a few bills on me for buskers and beggars now that I'm (somewhat) gainfully employed, but I often forget to withdraw when I run out. I don't run into too many of either around here, anyway, though. I used to live in a city where I'd go out for a walk some days and run into three or four people playing music in different squares to different ends. There was even a fellow who'd practice bagpipe at night in the square near our apartment...I think we scared him off by saying hello one night, though.

that sounds really nice! oh wow. i forget that people usually don't use cash anymore. i'm still a student, so i usually have some change on hand. pretty handy for these things :)

i think beggars are illegal where i live, if i remember correctly. pretty sure one would need to get a busking license/permit before they are allowed to busk here, but it's still very neat and they do sound really good.

Noswaith dda, ~bucketfish! I agree, music, especially live music, is something very special, dare I say, almost holy.

so true! i haven't been to a concert in a few years, but reading this reply is making me crave live music, especially pop concerts where the crowd joins in on the singing. something about everyone collectively enjoying one thing so much.

Yes, plus the energy of dancing amplifies the emotions...
