Closing Gemini, keeping Gopher

~yretek

--This is kind of a draft for a post I'll publish on my gopher phlog--

Despite not being secure, despite its quirkiness, who the *beep* chose tabs to format links?, despite not being too popular, Gopher, I chose you.

Why? I don't know, it's kinda cute, maybe it's the love for the underdog, of the furry thing that lives in burrows. I suppose it's kind of fast... or perhaps it is the lack of expectations.

Yes, that has to be it. Even in Gemini there is some promise of a community. And there is, but more in the shape of places like these than in hosting your own server.

Or it might be that my Gemini server was in Spanish and there are just too few people browsing in Gemini (and that, at the same time would care for what I had in offer there).

Anyway, I have stopped my Gemini server, I'm going on with my gopher. I'm keeping my web because some of my friends won't touch either Gemini or Gopher with 30 meter pole, even with a proxy (dark magic! boo! hacker-boogie-man!) and it's just better to share stuff in Spanish.

As for my content in Gemini, I don't know, I might revive the server sometime when I feel less stressed at work or take it to my gopher in some shape or form and/or delete what's no longer relevant.

Sorry for this mess of ideas, but that's what I've got right now.

I hope you had fun! :)

Buenas, ~yretek. You might want to leave the gemini server running just to keep any references to it alive. You could add a last post, explaining, why it is not updating any more. Like I did with my first instance on circumlunar.space. Whatever you do, have the appropriate amount of fun!

Cheers!

Regardless, may the ASCII be with you!

And the UTF8 these days :)

(Also, don't check your log files for your website if you don't want to see the spammers, the evil people with a script who call themselves hackers and so on and so forth)

Whoda thunk online would be where "ignorance is bliss" most convincingly came into its own?

Seems to have been true for the character "Cypher" in The Matrix.
