Duolingo

~winter

I've wanted to learn Irish for years. Ages ago the best resource online was a website that had some, uhhh, sketchy real world connections. But the Duolingo owl can be easily summoned on the phone. So, it begins. Girl and woman. Boy and man. Variations on "I". Apple, water, is, has, eat.

Who knows if this'll stick. One day, I'd like to try some translations, both ways. We'll see how it goes. Let's check in a couple of years.

Oh, yes, I'm so sorry, was so excited I didn't see you there, ~bartender. Hmm... Chai?

Hey! Thanks! You just reminded me this exists!

Lately I've had contact with lots of Arab speaking kids and the curiosity stroke again. I began asking them to teach me some words and I make a point of learning all of their names. And now I've downloaded Duolingo and began learning Arab!

It's tricky because the beginning is only learning the alphabet.

Let's see how far I can get!

Good luck! As weird as Irish is with its pronunciations, it's at least in the same alphabet!

I sold my soul to the bird. 381 day streak. I can't break it.

Right on! Most I could do was 2 months in German. Just started a new language, let's see if I can keep up :D

I turned notifications off for the app. It's on my second page of icons. I'll get to it when I remember. I tell myself this now, knowing I have an addictive personality. Of course I can quit at any time.

(joking in the context of your last two posts)

It definitely beats having a terrible realization that you're a forty-something now.... ;-)

I'm not good with languages. I've got a small amount of permanent, internalized French (thank the education system for that), but I was never great at it. We'll see how this all goes!
