I have had more than one, if you count Wordpress blogs. None of which exist now, except for some writing that I thought worth keeping and saved. I've toyed with bringing something back under my abacushex handle. I do have the domain name. Hmmmm...
One of my favorite activities in the late 90's and early 00's was to look at people's homepage. Not just blog, but actual homepage. The layout, the fonts, the colors, the background music if there was one. I guess there's an element of surprise when you visit a new place. I feel like most of today's content is standardize and creativity is surrounded by bigger constraints. So it got me curious... And after a bit of searching I found that page:
cameronsworld (warning: lots of gifs)Are homepage still a thing in 2020? While I don't have one, I really consider putting one together. I'd love to see if other patrons have one!

I don't know as I have one. I write here, and the longer pieces are mirrored on write.as:
https://write.as/zampano/
But that's about it. I just discovered Obsidian as a possible personal wiki/commonplace book, though, and it looks quite promising:
https://obsidian.md
That said, I do have every intention of putting together my own site sooner or later (probably via neocities, which has already been mentioned).
I seem a couple people here on the pub using write.as. Why do you use it, zampano?
It's mainly a combination of a good privacy policy, no user-tracking, and simplicity. Their back-end is not a bloated mess like WordPress, and with a paid account (which is not terribly expensive) you have a great deal of customization. Plus access to snap.as, which is basically their version of imgur.
My homepage is just a bunch of long form articles and weird lists:
http://caffo.xyzJust implemented automatic Dark Mode there.
I noticed you've got a Black Mage on your x220. Nice.
That's how we roll around here. Full clad in black robes spinning shell commands.
I'd need a Red Mage decal since I deal with both Unix (at home) and Windows (at my day job).
The Red Mage sprite is amazing. I remember when I first saw it (in my counterfeit NES clone — I was a small poor kid in Brazil) it made me so excited to play it.
Like "wooow, a RED mage! Red means blood right?"

My go-to party when playing the original Final Fantasy was Fighter, Monk, Red Mage, White Mage. I always liked that the Red Mage was something of a generalist; they could wield swords and use both protective and destructive magic. They weren't as good at any particular thing as a specialist class and lagged a bit in the endgame, but they provided some much-needed flexibility in the opening and middle game.
I hope mine counts because I'm certainly *trying* for it to feel more like a homepage than a blog...
maya.land...but the best homepages of our era I see are on Neocities.
Neocities.orgOne feature I wish that browsers would figure out is freeze-framing GIFs for people with prefers-reduced-motion set; I love the Over-The-Top-ness of glitter text and such, but it's a decent amount of effort to make sure it doesn't flicker for people that are bothered by that.
This is the closest I've got to a homepage. It's much more restrained than Cameron's World.
my motherfucking websiteI think the closest thing I have is a linktree but now I am mighty tempted.
That's an amazing find, I feel so nostalgic right now! Gemini Protocol gave me motivation to start something on my own, so I'll probably try making something in few days. I hope old Internet days could come back, but having a small close community of people still living in these times is nice in a way.
