Midnight Pub

... and then did the wheels veer from the tracks

Like I previously posted, beautiful start. Got into some Pub replying. Great leftovers for breakfast. Coffee the way I like it.

Then I go to the sink to rinse dishes.

ANTS!!!

Tiny little buggers. It looked like they were entering through a hole in the kitchen window frame whose purpose is to let rainwater drain back outside. But then there were so many it was hard to tell, because there was another place that might have been point of entry.

Didn't want to spray poison in the house, so I got busy with fingers and a bunched up paper towel - the difficulty of the task exacerbated by the counter top being black, and then the sun coming in through the kitchen window such that seeing 'em to squish 'em require[sd] *maybe* those X-ray glasses whose ads I'd see in the backs of periodicals back in the/my day.

Now the challenge is to keep from freaking out over the likeliness of my wife freaking out when I tell her about it not too long after awakening her. There will be the (what's the word? sort of like 'symbolic', but that's not it..) playing of a snare drum meant to fall in line and march to in order to address the situation! There will be insistence that we do things to the back yard that I'm pretty sure will work for a few weeks and then not!

In other words, the whole day is suddenly shot.

No, not really. But that's the feeling at this point.

There are some things ants can't stand. I believe white wine vinegar is one of them. You need to eradicate the trails more than you need to eradicate individual ants.

Yep. Wife said similar things about trails and vinegar-ishness and such.

  • But* my fun little killing spree, combined with some poison, combined with removing a clinging/climbing plant that provided a superhighway for their eager journeys into our kitchen worked - although I guess that removal constituted addressing the main trail.

In other (past) related news (not to hijack your own Pub post ;)) my best friend B, who I've known since 7, is having a birthday today (he is 43, I believe) and a sinkhole just developed in his backyard. I recall this because me and my Father and two uncles had just finished repairing a sinkhole 30+ years ago, when it was discovered the kitchen had become infested with ants. I smashed many with a half bent butter knife before we sprayed, remembering to never use the bent "ant smash knife" again during mealtime.

Hope your day works out, ha. More coffee here, too!
