One of these days I need to flip through the old 90's CDs I amassed.
Good times.
I have 1.6 GB of music downloaded. Each sign individually over a year. Still going at it. Physically music I want to like. Don't like HAVING it. Digital is fast and mindless. I avoid FLAC, as the files are huge.
All genres, eras. I lean Metal, Punk. classic Rock tho, tbh. All genres have good things to like.
I wonder, where is and who has the tapes I have away decades ago. 17, 18 I unloaded them. 130+ tapes of albums, likely ditching the mixed tapes of radio singles in the trash. RIP old format. Now it's all a big playlist, meagerly organized. On my to do to name files proper tho
I happened to be gainfully employed in 1990s, so was able to buy CDs in a fairly big way. I was still prudent, having been raised that way. But between acquiring CD versions of past vinyl favorites, and the tons of genuine 90s stuff I loved, I wound up with several spindles worth (by "spindles" I mean those large holders of blanks).
I can't remember the manufacturer, but I also had a lot of "cartridges" that held six. You'd pop one of those in their machine, and boom, you had a lot of listening. It was possible to do mp3's even then, but it was kind of a hassle, and download times weren't nearly what they are now. So I leaned in the CD direction.
People always asked with my infatuation w/ music why I never did vinyl. Answer: I didn't grow up with vinyl. Tapes were everywhere in late 80s/90s, so stuck with it. sub-answer: vinyl (equipment) is unfuckworthy expensive.
You ma remember Inquiry when I dabbled with hifi stuff in 2021/22, and got several hundreds dollars in before throwing in the towel. I can swing a decent pair of headphones (over ear and in ear, as well) but other than that I am not thrilled about having an expensive hobby. Esp when funds are "things I need" centric, ha
Spindles I had not heard of (pun). I did box sets, CDs and tapes, so of which were/are fairly rare and I wish I'd kept them.
Again, if it sounds good, listen :)
I'm remembering really loving some of Luscious Jackson's work (the song "Beloved" comes to mind. In fact, they came to an upstate New York city I lived in for a while, and I learned of that while sitting in a bar. When I mentioned it out loud, someone said, "You should rush over there, you'll likely get in for free for it being near the end of the show!"
And they were right, and it was a wonderful thing to hear a little bit of them live.
heard of them, though not their music
Only concerts in my life were wandering festivals. vans Warped Tour 2014, Echosmith, Idols for Hire, MC Chris, Teenage Bottlerocket, and I think Black Veil Brides or/and Motionless in White were seen/observed. Imagine Dragons, too(?)
Other than that, I saw Cheryl Crow in 1994 at the VP Fair (now Fair St Louis) at Lacledes Landing (now at Forest Park).
Oh Less Than Jake at VWT '14, too, that was the best one (otehr than Teenage Bottlerocket).
I attended less than a handful, and can't even remember what they were. And I'm actually rather happy about that, as in my younger days I was of the distinct impressions that live shows weren't nearly as good as recordings - well, apart from people continuously telling themselves they were... but then I suppose there's a lot more to such from a socialization point of view, which I never really cared about, so....
yea and Im a Crue fan, so that about defines the recording-to-live quality ratio right there. 80s Neil had incredible range and pitch to his voice, now one is lucky to perceive a single lyric from his voice
he killed a guy, anyway, so no sorrow for him. concert money can be better spent elsewhere, if you ask me. Or, a well-recorded album :D
great playlist
you just reminded me
i nees to grab some jane's addiction
ritual de lo habitual was so damn good
been a fat min since i heard it
...but yea, I remember Ritual de lo Habitual around the time of Nothing's Shocking and Undertow and La Sexoristo and other Metal/Industrial type bands were the shit. Never heard RdlH though, need to check it
it's fucking awesome
well worth a listen
shit, i was just looking at their
discography and they only released
two albums back in the day
their next release after habitual was
in 2003 O_o
I found the same for Soul Asylum - three albums early 90s. Then nothing until early 2000s and then nothing since. Grave Dancers Union was so big in the day, though
yeah, it's always strange to see
chinese democracy still cracks me up
might as well have been
axl rose and his new friends
smear the gnr name
i remember being sooo
excited for that album
...for like ten years
and then it was just god awful
I always forget who did the Nothing's Shocking album, Jane's Addiction or Alice in Chains (I think the latter). I remember that album cover and buying it and not liking it, lmao.
yeah, that's jane's
it's their first album
not super strong if i remember
it's been so long since i heard it
now i have to get that first
just because i remember ritual
but nothings shocking is drawing
a blank
edit: oops, that has one of my favs, ocean size
and that has jane says too lol
i think ritual was so good i just misremembered
how good nothing's shocking was
Yea Jane's Addiction. 1988. Apparently it was still popular enough to sell t shirts of in Metal Edge in 1990, as that's where I saw it
i can't believe i spaced it
i listened to this album
A LOT
at like 15/16
i played this album the fuck out
can't believe i forgot
but when i started listening to it just now
the memories came flooding back
