I agree. I'm reminded of the fact that most large Fediverse instances also have pages upon pages of speech policies which in my opinion undermine the entire endeavor. I still believe in free speech, even if someone is off the deep end, they self-tag at that point and I can avoid them. Sure, things like harassment etc. aren't great but any belief or opinion expressed genuinely and respectfully shouldn't be banned.

I think one of the worst parts of the internet being flooded with trolls, alt-righters, and the like, is that communities often feel the need to write at length how to behave, and any and all political discussion is highly discouraged. Generally, people know how to behave, they don't really have to be told how to get along with others on the internet. But some sites are more liable to get that kind which nobody really wants. Imageboards, for example. I've browsed a few imageboards in the past, and for some reason, one of them attracts the alt-righters like flies to shit, whereas another one rarely ever gets that kind of people at all.

Idk, idk. I don't really care for micromanaging how people behave on the internet. Ideally, everybody should be free to act as they see fit, but there are terminal screen adicts that tend to degrade the level of a site to a point where it really becomes a shitfest (or as inquiry says, a self-fest?), as I have been witness to that with one particular site which, as I said, tends to attract a wide assortment of um, of clearly unbalanced people.

I want to note, the post is as I see it, and as I approach it (or don't approach it in regards to 32b), and that I was/am stating the avoidance of 32b cafe + any other censor-oriented services as a matter of common sense, principle, and simply because I prefer honest truth over any formatting to etiquette.

As for online actions, interactions, views, ideas, statements, words, etc., I think everyone should make their voice direct and ununcumbered as possible. If it's "far left" or "far right" or people professing their love for unicorns or expression of disgust for any/all elements of the world - it's THEIR words, no one has to read them, and everyone has the freedom to NOT read what is here, there, anywhere online - no one is forcing anyone. And no one makes a decision for another online "all so and so use xyz social platform, I HAVE to be..." no - people are on their own and make their own decisions in life and especially online. If they CHOOSE to not exercise their presence/non-presence on a service/platform that has unpleasant things said on it, then they should make any and all effort to NOT *deliberately* visit that site/service.

I have zero sympathy for those who nosedive into snake pits and expect to walk away with a massage. People can and do what they wish online, some of it pleasant, some of it not - no kudos nor cure for that which makes people people.

for sure i agree

the REAL

problem though

is the fact

of far right actors

deliberately inflitrating communities

for recruitment purposes

which sucks

i've been a part of some that did

it's insidious because

you want an open space

where people CAN express their views

without fear

BUT

those that have other ends

use that tolerance like a cudgel

to bludgeon users with their

tactics aimed at recruiting

others to their culture war bs

it's truly despicable

and creates chaos in communities
